Denmark’s chosen its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, which takes place in Malmö, Sweden. It’s Saba, who’ll represent her country, which is taking part in the ESC for the 52nd time.
The composition
The title of the song’s “Sand” and it was created by Jonas Thander, Melanie Gabriella Hayrapetian, Pil Kalinka Nygaard Jeppesen. It’s sung in English.

The procedure
The winner was chosen by the jury and the audience in a 50:50 ratio. Two votes took place. The first of them selected the final three, and after resetting the scores and conducting a second vote, we the winner of the National Selection was announced. Saba won the jury voting but came third in the public voting. The points scored by participants outside the final three are unknown at this time.
What do we know about Saba?
Anna Saba Lykke Oehlenschlæger, working under the pseudonym SABA, was born in Ethiopia. As a child, she and her twin sister were adopted by a Danish family with whom they lived in Rinkøping in western Jutland. However, after growing up, Saba did not immediately pursue music – she founded her own company in Copenhagen and also developed as a model. Last year, she took over the main role from her sister in the musical Hair and it was her first contact with the stage. However, this performance in the National Selection is her stage debut as a soloist and, as she states, a chance to finally create something of her own musically.

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden on Tuesday, 7th May (the First Semi-final), Thursday, 9th May (the Second Semi-final) and Saturday, 11th May (the Grand Final) 2024.
