Rosa Linn first broke onto the international scene after representing Armenia at Eurovision Song Contest 2022 held in Turin, Italy. Though she did not win that competition, her entry song “Snap” later became an enormous hit worldwide thereby making her among the most notable recent years’ alumni of Eurovision.
Born in 2000 at Vanadzor in Armenia, Rosa Linn took an interest in music from her early days. She learned how to play instruments and compose songs during her teen years. Before getting the chance to perform at Eurovision, she worked with record labels and some other artists who were slowly but steadily gaining ground on the Armenian music scene. Her choice as the representative for Armenia meant great fun since it symbolized reintroducing the country to the contest after a year’s absence.
Rosa Lynn took the stage to perform “Snap”, a touching indie-pop ballad about the end of a love affair and the essence of healing. It was an elegant, minimal setting- bedroom-like; and it generated quite an intimate mood on stage. The song stood at 20th in its grand final, however, its catchy tune and sensible words appealed to many. “Snap”, unlike most Eurovision entries, actually hit months later.
In June 2022, “Snap” blew up on TikTok through millions of users posting short videos of it. This instant pop boosted the track onto global streaming charts: it reached the United States’ Billboard Hot 100 position, an unusual feat for a Eurovision entry, and the top-streamed Eurovision song in history on Spotify. “Snap” was a demonstration of how digital platforms could rebrand the legacy of Eurovision performances.
Following her Eurovision experience, Rosa Linn signed to Columbia Records further building her international career. Major music festivals performances, an international tour, and new music releases ever since have been helping her steady her course towards stardom in the global music industry.
Rosa Linn did not win Eurovision. But she proves how that competition can be used to launch long-lasting international success. Her story is what Eurovision has become in this digital age: a contest where one performance can go viral and change an artist’s life forever.
