Poland wins the ESC 2024. True or false? Stay with me to the very end of this video to find out if this is possible.
This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. This is “The Tower” by Luna.
Well, frist things first. An intriguing introduction to this radio song almost like a song for “Gladiator” film. And then building up towards the rhythmic choruss. I have to mention here some opinions that this song resembles songs created by AI or that was even created by AI. What do you think of that guys?
This Polish entry was chosen internally although fan’s hot favourite was Justyna Steczkowska (who represented Poland in 1995 finishing 18th) with her song “WITCH-ER Tarohoro”. Luna beat Justyna by one point only.
What’s intriguing they cooperated together in 2022 singing “Nie mój sen” (“Not My Dream”). Rumour has it that TVP (Polish Television), after the change of government in Poland and tv management didn’t want Justyna to represent Poland.
This year’s song was written by Aleksandra Katarzyna Wielgomas, Max Cooke and Paul Dixon and it was produced in the United Kingdom, specially for Eurovision. It’s sung in English.
For sure this isn’t a soothing lullaby that is more likely to send us to sleep.
The chorus is super catchy.
But the ending seems to need some revamp as is kind of repetitive and nothing special happens there. And this seems to be a kind of common opinion. And yes, we have this version. We can listen to a part of it. Is this better?
The video clip is related to a game of chess. There’s a guy who took part in one of the Polish Top Model’s editions.
I do agree with the honest vocal coach that Luna sounds a little bit like Diana Vickers. Listen to that. Do you agree?
Luna is said to keep this ‘chess’ staging in Sweden. We’ll see what the final effect will be as I also read sth about a burning dress. Hmm, is this possible at all? Maybe the latest technology will give succour. The person who will be responsible for the performance will be Jerry Reeve who directed the UK’s performance in 2021 when this country scored zero points. Hopefully, this fate will not befall Luna. But, let’s be honest, Luna’s song is much better, isn’t it?
So, Jerry Reeve was announced as the creative director of the performance, and the choreography will be handled by Lukas McFarlane and Kamila Zalewska. The duo of Reeve and McFarlane has collaborated with artists such as Justin Timberlake and the Jonas Brothers. How will this translate into the Eurovision result?
What’s the song about?
— “The Tower” is a manifesto of freedom and strength – says Luna. – A way out of darkness. Abandoning ties, blockages, limitations, negative patterns and relationships. Destroying the tower and going out into the world. It is realizing our own strength, fullness and that our limitations are our creation. A tower is a place or state that we build ourselves.
Is this going to be a massive hit? Hmm, first let’s ask a question: Is it going to make it to the Grand Final?
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with, well, decent vocals, depending on the performance.
As each juror is going to rank all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I will assign points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 7 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage (it’s hard to say because the national selection was not held this year. I’ll take into consideration two live performances available online), 6 out of 10;
– vocal ca’pacity of the per’former(s), 6 out of 10;
Well, there are two performances so far available and they’re different in terms of vocals’ quality.
– over’all impression of the act, 7 out of 10.
So the total is: 26 out of 40 points that is 65%.
Will Luna’s Tower lead her to victory? We’ll see if she will get the best result for Poland. To do that she would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Poland so far has been the 2nd place; it was in 1994, in the year of the Polish ESC debut).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Luna! Congratulations, Poland! I assume this song might qualify for the Grand Final but a lot will depend on the vocals here. I still remember a lot of work Blanka put to improve her National Selection performance last year and it paid off in the end as she finished 3rd in the semi final. Do you agree, Guys?
What do the bookmakers say about the Polish entry? Well, at this moment (19st March 2024) it’s in 29th place (out of 37 contestants on eurovisionworld.com).
Let’s hear it for Luna and the whole team!
