This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction to the song that will represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Deslocado” (in English “Displaced”) by Napa that is an indie band from Madeira.

Well, frist things first. It’s indie pop/rock.
This year’s Portuguese entry was chosen both by the public and jury and Napa didn’t win in any of these categories: the public placed them second and the jury ranked them fourth.
This year’s Portuguese song was composed by the party of six (including Napa’s members) and it’s sung in Portuguese.
What’s the song about?
You can read online that it’s: an ode to the band’s origins in Madeira living displaced in mainland Portugal. The band stated: “we always wanted to portray that feeling of being displaced, of being an ocean away from home” it’s also about the longing of Madeiran students who leave the island to go study abroad.
The band’s drummer, also said that the song is dedicated to all Portuguese emigrants who “had to leave the country to have a better life, instead of just surviving in Portugal”.

To that city
The sea of people
The different sun
The pile of concrete
Doesn’t provoke me
It doesn’t feel like home”
Is this going to be a massive hit? Hmm, why not?
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with great vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 8 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.
So the total is: 36 out of 40 points that is 90%.
I asked a question: “Will Napa’s displacement lead them to victory?” To get the best result for Portugal they would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Portugal so far was the 1st place; it happened once: it was in 2017).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Napa! Congratulations, Portugal! I assumed this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depended on the other entries as well. Do you agree, Guys?
What did the bookmakers say about the Portuguese entry? Well, at that moment (3rd May 2025) it was in the 31st place (on eurovisionworld.com).
