This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction to the song that will represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Lighter” by Kyle Alessandro.

Well, frist things first. His music can be described as pop and R&B.
This year’s Norwegian entry was chosen both the public and jury. Kyle won in both categories.
This year’s Norwegian song was composed by a party of two including Kyle himself and it’s sung in English.
What’s the song about?
Alessandro states that the song was inspired by his mother, who told him after her cancer diagnosis that he should never lose his light. The song is about fighting back after a setback and finding hope even in difficult times. In the chorus he repeats the statement that he is his own lighter.
“Nothing can burn me now
I’ll be my own lighter
I feel a spark inside me
I don’t need saving
No way, no way
‘Cause I’m my own
I’m my own lighter”
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with great vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 8 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.
So the total is: 36 out of 40 points that is 90%.
My question was: “Will Kyle’s lighter lead him to victory?” To get the best result for Norway Kyle would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Norway so far was the 1st place; it happened thrice: it was in 1985, 1995 and 2009).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Kyle! Congratulations, Norway! I assumed this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depended on the other entries as well. Do you agree, Guys?
What did the bookmakers say about the Norwegian entry? Well, at that moment (10th May 2025) it was in the 23rd place (on eurovisionworld.com).
