This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Queen of Kings” by Alessandra.

The song was chosen by a combination of the jury and public voting. Alessandra won in both categories and thus she’s the winner of the Melodi Grand Prix 2023.

A nice beginning – camera far away from Alessandra getting closer and closer. In the beginning, I’d say almost classical singing some epic sounds but it’s not done by Alessandra herself but the backing vocalists, is it?

But then Alessandra starts in the same style with a head voice. This all seems to add up and professional. Alessandra dressed and acting in a warrior queen like style.

Nice lighting, dark colours – this all gives the impression of a well-prepared ‘enterprise’.

I like this delicate move from pre-chorus to the strong chorus with the dancers appearing in the background it creates a kind of bridge between different parts of the song in terms of style and strength.

We can see some shift in Alessandra’s vocals as well getting more a chest voice – getting  more pop like I’d say. Do you agree with me?

I do admire the way her train works – made of such a delicate fabric and created in the way that this lets it float in a way and makes a very good impression of even a kind of liquid behind the artist. Then, it’s torn off by presumably one of the dancers.

Well, as for the vibes at moments it reminds me of Lady Gaga or Ava Max and vocally at times Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation. Do you have a similar impression?

We could hear some high notes I’d say whistle notes (the whistle register) hit exactly on target – this will add some points in the jury voting, won’t it?

All in all, I’d say this is a very strong performance both vocally and visually with a lot of energy that finds its justfication even in the way Alessandra finishes and reacts directly having finished the performance.

We’ll see if Alessandra will get the best result for Norway. Will she be the Queen of Eurovision 2023? To do that she would have to win the whole contest (as the best result for Norway so far has been the 1st place; it was in 1985, 1995 and 2009).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Alessandra! Congratulations, Norway! I assume this song will qualify to the final and there it might be high in the final ranking.

What do the bookmakers say about the Spanish entry? At this moment (11th February 2023)  it’s said to be in the 3rd place below Ukraine.
