Blanca Paloma – “Eaea” – Spain | Eurovision Song Contest 2023

Have you seen the Spanish National Selection 2023 winning performance? Stay with me to the end of this article and video below.

Hello, Guys!

This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! I present my reactions/comments here.

This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Eaea” by Blanca Paloma.

Is this entry going to be successful? Is it going to be a winning song? Let’s find out and watch the first snippet.

The song was chosen by a combination of the jury and public voting. Thus Blanca Paloma has won the Benidorm Fest at her second attempt.

A nice beginning – Blanca’s dark silhouette with a white background behind her with typical Spanish vocals. The intro is visually pretty similar to this year’s Belgian entry.

A quite delicate intro with good vocals getting stronger and stronger. Blanca’s vibrato just makes a difference and gives this performance even more Spanish vibes.

A lot of traditional flamenco atmosphere. You can say that this song definitely has a Spanish character with lot of this Spanish type of clapping but still quite modern.

And visually everything adds up very well – three dominant colours: red, black and white. Generally, staging is so cleverly done. Blanca is walking through a kind of lane made of strings, human hands with different moves.

The chorus seems to be quite controversial as some people claim it is just the repetition of two sounds: ‘eaea’ as some use them to lull a child to sleep. But if this is Blanca’s way to express her emotions in the best way – why not then?

And it seems good for Spain that they are not trying to copy last year’s entry (Chanel) only because it turned out to be successful (as Cyprus intended to do after 2018’s success). They give us something completely different.

This song is definitely very original but will it be succesful? Will it repeat Chanel’s result. I doubt it. Maybe it will be well received and recognized by the jury but I’m not sure as for the public if they’re going to vote for Blanca. But one thing is for sure – this song will not leave you indifferent.

Leave a comment and tell me if you like the song.

And her characteristic move as if she was shooting with a bow and arrow to score a bull’s-eye which could be here twelve points.

Blanca’s backing vocalists seem to create a kind of chorus in a Greek tragedy.

All in all, I’d say this is a very strong performance both vocally and visually.

We’ll see if Blanca will get the best result for Spain. To do that she would have to win the whole contest (as the best result for Spain so far has been the1 st place in 1968 and 1969).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Blanca Paloma! Congratulations, Spain! I assume this song might be high in the jury ranking in the final. As for the public – it’s difficult to predict. We’ll see.

What do the bookmakers say about the Spanish entry? At this moment (8th February 2023)  it’s said to be in the 12th place below Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Norway.

Let’s hear it for Blanca and the whole team!
