This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction on the song that represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Laika Party” by Emmy whose full name is Emmy Kristine Guttulsrud Kristiansen (who’s a Norwegian singer and songwriter).

Well, frist things first.
This year’s Irish entry was chosen by the public and both national and international jury. Emmy won the public and national jury’s voting but was ranked second by the international jury.
This year’s Irish song was composed by a team of five and one of them was Emmy herself and it’s sung in English.
It was initially rejected from the Norwegian National Selection.
What’s the song about?
The song is a tribute to Laika, the Soviet dog who in 1957 became the first living being to orbit the Earth. The idea for the lyrics came after Emmy accidentally discovered her tragic story, prompting her to imagine an alternative fate in which the animal, instead of dying, experiences an endless party in space.
“I hope Laika never died
And that she spines around us still
And that she has a party in the air and always will
I hope that she is dancing every night among the stars
I hope Laika is alive
Laika party in the sky”
Is this going to be a massive hit? Hmm, why not?
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with great vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I will assign points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 7 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage 9 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 9 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 7 out of 10.
So the total is: 32 out of 40 points that is 80%.
The question was: “Will Emmy’s Laika lead her to victory?” To get the best result for Ireland she would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Ireland so far has been the 1st place; it happened seven times: it was in 1970, 1980, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Emmy! Congratulations, Ireland! I assumed this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depended on the other entries as well. Do you agree, Guys?
What did the bookmakers say about the Irish entry? Well, at that moment (12th April 2025) it was in the 20th place (on eurovisionworld.com).
