Croatia Wins the ESC 2024. True or False?

Croatia wins the ESC 2024. True or false? Stay with me to the very end of this article to find out if this is possible.

This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. This is “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by Baby Lasagna, whose real name is Marko Purišić.

Well, frist things first. An intriguing, rock introduction to this song that is described as a combination of techno, heavy metal, pop and trap. We can see some folk elements on stage. What do you think of that Guys?

This Croatian entry was chosen in the National Selection Dora. Baby Lasagna won both: the jury and public voting.

What’s intriguing Baby Lasagna first ended up on a reserve list as the rumour has it that the Croatian broadcaster didn’t want to send this Artist to Sweden.

This year’s song was written by Marko Purišić that is Baby Lasagna’s himself. It’s sung in English.

For sure this isn’t a soothing lullaby that is more likely to send us to sleep.

The chorus is catchy with strong rock vibes. And the whole song in many people’s opinions resembles last year’s Finnish song. Käärijä admitted that the vibes are similar but songs are different. What’s your stand on that guys?

There’s a lot of movement on stage, with those horses and cats in the background. By the way, cats turned out to be a kind of mission statement, central theme of this year’s entry, didn’t they?

And this techno like part. It’s great, isn’t it?

Being followed by this kind of mellow bridge.

Some of Marko’s moves on stage resemble those of rock and heavy metal artists, don’t they?

What’s the song about?

It’s a song about the economic emigration of young Croatians. It’s a story of a young man who leaves his village for a better life in a foreign country and although he’s excited, he’s anxoius. The tile Rim Tim Tagi Dim is the name of a fictional folk dance from this man’s village.  Is this going to be a massive hit? We’ll see!

All in all, I’d say this is a very good song with good vocals (which were criticized by many, but they have improved recently, haven’t they?)

As each juror is going to rank all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I will assign points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):

– composition and originality of the song, 8 out of 10;

– quality of the performance on stage, 9 out of 10;

– vocal capacity of the per’former(s), 8 out of 10;

– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.

So the total is: 33 out of 40 points that is 83%.

Will Baby Lasagna’s Rim Tim Tagi Dim lead him to victory? We’ll see if he will get the best result for Croatia. To do that Marko would have to finish at least third (as the best result for Croatia so far has been the 4th place; it happened twice in 1996 and 1999).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Baby Lasagna! Congratulations, Croatia! I assume this song will make it to the Final and there is a good chance for Croatia to achieve one of the best results in its ESC history.

What do the bookmakers say about the Croatian entry? Well, at this moment (9th April 2024) it’s in 2nd place (out of 37 contestants on eurovisionworld.com), however, it’s worth mentioning that for a couple of weeks Croatia was tipped to win. We’ll see how this will finish in May.

Let’s hear it for Baby Lasagna and the whole team!

Let me know what you think of this performance in the comments below.
