Have you seen the Finnish National Selection 2023 winning performance? Is it going to be successful? Stay with me to the very end of this article and watch my video below to find out if this entry’s going to win.
Hello, Guys!
This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! I present my reactions/comments here.
This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Cha Cha Cha” by Käärijä.
Let’s focus on the first snippet.
Well, well, frist things first. An intriguing introduction – I can already assume that something very original is going to happen. Käärijä, whose real name is Jere Pöyhönen, creates hip hop, rap and electronic music and this composition seems to follow all these kinds of music, mostly we could define it as electro pop.
The song was chosen by a combination of the international jury and public voting. Käärijä won in both categories and thus he’s the winner of the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2023.
The vocalist seems to be charismatic and grabs the attention and I’d say ‘rules’ the stage, doesn’t he?
This stage design reminds me of a kind of a farm, barn – pallets in the centre of the frame. Käärijä appears with his naked torso, and then we have this close-up onto his face, when he sticks out his tounge at the viewer.
A very original outfit. Green colour – the colour of hope.
And then we have dancers who are dancing ‘cha cha’, aren’t they? Hmm, once again we have a kind of mixture of styles, don’t we? Like last year’s performance by Kalush Orchestra.
OK, and we have those strips, ribbons similar to those in the Turkish performance in 2003 by Sertab Erener “Everyway That I Can” – even the colour is the same, maybe only the shape and material differ. Hmm, yes, Käärijä seems to do his best “everyway that he can”.
And those dancers make a difference as well. This is such a great contrast. I love it. Well, and their white teeth, are they real?
As for the vibes it reminds me of the Icelandic entry from 2019. Some eroticisim maybe less explicit. 😉
Well, as for the lyrics it’s about chilling out, isn’t it? Like in a club. 😉
Vocals quite strong but more of a shouting style and there’s some kind of backing vocals to which he seems to be singing.
And this change of tempo and the whole song as if it was sung by a different person. Now we have like a pop song with some delicate vocals and some, let’s say, original choreographic routine. This in turn reminds me of the song that was to represent Ukraine in 2019 Maruv’s “Siren Song”.
Frankly speaking, “Cha Cha Cha” is hard to be categorized unambiguously.
Honestly, I’m almost sure that Finland will make it to the Grand Final in the ESC 2023. Presumably, this entry might get more votes from the public, but I’m just curious how the jury will approach this song. What do you think about that, guys?
All in all, I’d say this is a unique performance and definitely stands out from the other songs, and this is vital to make the song get stuck in viewers’ heads.
Will Käärijä’s Cha Cha Cha lead him to victory? We’ll see if Käärijä will get the best result for Finland. To do that he would have to win the whole contest (as the best result for Finland so far has been the 1st place in the Grand Final; it was in 2006).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Käärijä! Congratulations, Finland! I assume this song will qualify for the Grand Final and presumably, will be pretty high in the final ranking if the jury support this composition.
What do the bookmakers say about the Finnish entry? At this moment (15th March 2023) it’s in 2nd place on eurovisionworld.com behind Sweden.
Let’s hear it for Käärijä and the whole team!

Hello from the future! Eurovision 2023 has finished for the year, and Käärijä placed 2nd place with Sweden taking 1st. In my opinion I preferred Cha Cha Cha than that of Sweden but over all they did a good job!
Thanks for your comment, Kaunis Suomi! 🙂 Yes, these are two great songs and Artists! We’ll see what will happen in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024! Who’ll represent Finland and Sweden! Who would you like to represent Finland in the ESC 2024 (because you’re from Finland, aren’t you?)?
