Czechia’s chosen its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, which takes place in Malmö, Sweden. It’s Aiko, who’ll represent her country, which is taking part in the ESC for the 12th time.
The composition
The title of the song’s “Pedestal” and was created by Aiko herself and Steven Ansell.
The procedure
The Czech representative was chosen in the National Selection. It was determined by 70% of the international votes and 30% of the Czech votes. What’s intriguing, it won the international voting by a mile whereas it came only fifth in the Czech voting. Aiko’s performance was given a mixed reception as Aiko was criticized for poor vocals. What do we know about Aiko?
Aiko (Alena Shirmanova-Kostebelova) was born in Moscow, Russia in 1999 and raised in the Czech Republic. Currently, she lives in the United Kingdom. Aiko’s music is a blend of cultures and different influences, and explores themes of love, solitude and self-understanding. Alena’s the first Czech artist to grace Times Square, New York City, USA (her image was presented there).
Eurovision Song Contest 2024
The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden on Tuesday, 7th May (the First Semi-final), Thursday, 9th May (the Second Semi-final) and Saturday, 11th May (the Grand Final) 2024.
