This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction to the song that represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Róa” (in English “Row”) by Væb.

Well, frist things first. It’s definitely electronic music.
This year’s Icelandic entry was chosen both by the public and jury and Væb won in both categories.
This year’s Icelandic song was composed by the party of four (including the band’s members) and it’s sung in Icelandic.
What’s the song about?
“Rowing here, rowing there
Rowing through the waves
There is nothing that can stop me …
With oars out of steel
That last for a year
With course towards the Faroe Islands
Yes, I am ready”
Is this going to be a massive hit? Hmm, why not?
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with good vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, l assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 7 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 9 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.
So the total is: 34 out of 40 points that is 85%.
I had a question: “Will Væb’s rowing lead them to victory?” To get the best result for Iceland they would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Iceland so far was the 2nd place; it happened twice: it was in 1999 & 2009).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Væb! Congratulations, Iceland! I assumed this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depended on the other entries as well. Do you agree, Guys?
What did the bookmakers say about the Icelandic entry? Well, at that moment (28th April 2025) it was in the 35th place (on eurovisionworld.com).
