This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction to the song that represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Espresso Macchiato” by Tommy Cash whose real name is Tomas Tammemets.

Well, frist things first. Tommy’s music can be described as hip hop.
This year’s Estonian entry was chosen both the public and jury and won in both categories.
This year’s Estonia’s song was composed by Tommy and Johannes Naukkarinen who was one of the songwriters of “Cha Cha Cha” by Käärijä, and it’s sung in Italian and English. The lyrics were written in a mixture of broken English, Spanglish, and the broccolino dialect of American Italian. And the song talks among others about spaghetti, mafia figures and other stereotypes associated with Italian culture. That’s why there were even requests to disqualify the song.
What’s the song about?
“I like to fly private
With 24 carats
Also, my house is very
Awesome
My money numerous
I work around the clock
That’s why I’m sweating like a mafioso
Life is like spaghetti
It’s hard until you make it
No stress, no stress
It’s gonna be espresso”
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with good vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 8 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 9 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.
So the total is: 35 out of 40 points that is 88%.
My question was: “Will Tommy’s Espresso lead him to victory? To get the best result for Estonia he would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Estonia so far was the 1st place; it happened once: it was in 2001).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Tommy! Congratulations, Estonia! I assumed this song would qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depended on the other entries as well. Do you agree, Guys?
What did the bookmakers say about the Estonian entry? Well, at that moment (9th May 2025) it was in the 9th place (on eurovisionworld.com).
