This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction on the song that will represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Esa diva” (that in English is “That Diva”) by Melody whose full name is Melodía Ruiz Gutiérrez.

Well, frist things first.
This year’s Spanish entry was chosen both by the public and jury and won the public voting but the jury placed her 3rd.
This year’s Spanish song was composed by Alberto Lorite and Melody herself.
What’s the song about?
“Una diva es valiente, poderosa
Su vida es un jardín lleno de espinas y rosas
Resurge bailando
Con más fuerza que un huracán
Es la madre que madruga
Es la artista sin cartel
Con dinero o sin fortuna
Ellas son divas también”
“A diva is brave, powerful
Her life is a garden full of thorns and roses
She rises again dancing
With more strength than a hurricane
She is the mother who wakes up early
She is the artist without a label
With money or without fortune
They are divas too”
Is this going to be a massive hit? Hmm, why not?
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with great vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 9 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 9 out of 10.
So the total is: 38 out of 40 points that is 95%.
My question was: “Will Melody’s Diva lead her to victory?” To get the best result for Spain Melody would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Spain so far has been the 1st place; it happened twice: it was in 1968 and 1969).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Melody! Congratulations, Spain! Well, Spain doesn’t have to qualiify for the Grand Final because it’s a member of the so-called Bif Five. Did you believe Melody would be successful, Guys?
What did the bookmakers say about the Spanish entry? Well, at that moment (12th April 2025) it was in the 28th place (on eurovisionworld.com).
