This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction to the song that represented Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Poison Cake” by Marko Bošnjak.

Well, frist things first. It’s definitely pop.
This year’s Croatian entry was chosen both the public and jury. Marko won the jury voting and was ranked 4th by the public.
The song was composed by a party of four including Marko himself and it’s sung in English.
What’s the song about?
The Croatian song is described as “as a story of revenge and standing up for yourself … about anger, and a desire for justice, told through a powerful metaphor of depriving those who have abused their position.”

Chocolate-covered sugar and spice
Tasty, tasty, yum, yum, tasty
Candy colours oh so nice
Take a bite of my poison cake, yum”
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with great vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 8 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage 9 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.
So the total is: 35 out of 40 points that is 88%.
My question was: “Will Marko’s Cake lead him to victory?” To get the best result for Croatia Marko would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Croatia so far was the 2nd place; it happened once: it was in 2024).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Marko! Congratulations, Croatia! I assumed this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depended on the other entries as well. Do you agree, Guys?
What did the bookmakers say about the Croatian entry? Well, at that moment (8th May 2025) it was in the last, 37th place (on eurovisionworld.com).
