Luke Black – “Samo mi se spava” (Само ми се спава) – Serbia | Eurovision Song Contest 2023 | Reaction/Comment

Have you seen the Serbian National Selection 2023 winning performance? Is it going to be successful? Stay with me to the very end of this article and watch the video to find out if this entry’s going to win.

Hello, Guys!

This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! I present my reactions/comments here.

This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Samo mi se spava” which means “I’m just sleepy” by Luke Black; the song written by Luke himself.

A delicate beginning with Luke, whose real name is Luka Ivanović, lying on a kind of a shell. I don’t know. His vocals seem to be mixed with some vocal effect similar to Reiley’s from Denmark. Is this a kind of a Voice Encoder?

The song was chosen by a combination of the jury and public voting. What’s intriguing Luke won neither jury nor public voting. He came second in both categories but thus scored the most points and became the winner of the Pesma za Evroviziju 2023. Similarly to Jamala in 2016.

And it all starts with Luke moving to the upright position. Well, some electonic music – electro-pop, dream-pop mixed with synth-pop. I like it but at this point of the song I’m trying to decifer what is the main idea of the staging. A kind of a shell with some figures connected with it via kind of cables which seem to be killed by Luke himself. In the background some creatures like from a game. All finishing with “ENEMY DEFEATED”. Who’s the enemy? Is our world compared to a game which is to be over? And we all can hear this “hello” like in Adele’s song.

Luka sings in both Serbian and English. I like this kind of mixture because you can learn at some point what the song can be about if you don’t speak the singer’s native language.

I see some similarities to the Icelandic entry from 1997 as for the vibes and staging a bit.

I assume Luke will win all gamer’s hearts with this kind of staging.

I’m curious about the staging. Will it be the same in Liverpool?

Frankly speaking, I’m not if Serbia will be successful in the ESC 2023. Presumably, this entry will get more viewers’ votes than the jury’s but you never know.

All in all, I’d say this is a decent performance but still I’m not 100% convinced by staging itself. However, this song migh stand out from the other songs.

Will Luke’s game lead him to victory? We’ll see if Luka will get the best result for Serbia. To do that he would have to win the whole contest (as the best result for Serbia so far has been the 1st place; it was in 2007).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Luke! Congratulations, Serbia! I assume this song might qualify to the Grand Final as the qualifiers will be chosen by the audience only. We’ll see.

What do the bookmakers say about the Serbian entry? At this moment (5th March 2023) it’s in 14th place on eurovisionworld.com.

Let’s hear it for Luke and the whole team!
