Lord of the Lost – “Blood and Glitter” – Germany | Eurovision Song Contest 2023 | Reaction/Comment

Have you seen the German National Selection 2023 winning performance? Is it going to be successful? Stay with me to the very end of this article and watch the video below to find out if this entry’s going to win.

Hello, Guys!

This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! I present my reactions/comments here.

This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Blood and Glitter” by Lord of the Lost.

Let’s focus on the first snippet.

A quite delicate beginning with Chris “Lord” Harms singing in English but judging by what you see, you might expect something’s going to happen. And yes, we have a strong guitar as Lord of the Lost is a gothic metal band. We haven’t heard that strong sounds in the Eruovision Song Contest for a while, have we?

The whole staging and the lead singer remind me a bit of another German band that is Rammstein.

The song was chosen by a combination of the jury and public voting. Lord of the Lost was ranked 5th by the jury but won the public voting and thus scored the most points and became the winner of the  Unser Lied für Liverpool.

Rather strong vocals in the head register. Original outfits and hairstyles make them a real gothic metal band but I can feel apart from all that some senisitivity in Chris’s vocals.

Now when I’ve heard some part of the song it definitely reminds me of the Finnish band Lordi who won the ESC 2006.

I’m keen on these rythmical irregularities made by the drums which give this additional sparkle to this song.

The title Blood and Glitter is to symbolize our lives?

I’m fond of these camera shots from the front of the stage and from above the band where one of the band members seems to be playing with it.

I like this delicate as for this song bridge – vocally similar to the beginning of this song and this allows Chris to show different aspects of his vocals and gives some contrast to the song.

A very strong finish. Maybe this song didn’t sweep me off my feet but it didn’t leave me indifferent as well.

I’m curious about the staging. Will it be the same in Liverpool. I like these two levels of the stage I mean the drums, the guitar and piano being higher than the two members of the band with the frontman at the head?

Frankly speaking, I’m not sure if Germany will be successful in the ESC 2023. As the history of the ESC shows some stronger compositions have already won a couple of times. Maybe history will repeat itself again. One thing is certain, Germany will appear in the Grand Final because it’s the member of the so called ‘Big Five’ and they are directly in the Final and don’t have to compete in the semi-finals.

All in all, I’d say this is a decent performance which will for sure stand out from the other songs as so far we haven’t had a gothic metal band among participants of the ESC2023.

Will Lord of the Lost’s blood and glitter lead them to victory? We’ll see if they will get the best result for Germany. To do that they would have to win the whole contest (as the best result for Germany so far has been the 1st place; it happened twice in 1982 and 2010).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Lord of the Lost! Congratulations, Germany!

What do the bookmakers say about the German entry? At this moment (5th March 2023) it’s in 24th place on eurovisionworld.com.

Let’s hear it for Lord of the Lost and the whole team!
