This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction to the song that will represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Vo’levo ‘essere un duro” (In English “I wanted to be a tough guy”) by Lucio Corsi.

Well, frist things first. His music is pop, rock, blues.
This year’s Italian entry was chosen both by the jury (press (TV, online media) and radio) as well as the public. The jury ranked him first, the public – second. Lucio finished second but the winner of Sanremo 2025 didn’t decide to go to the ESC.
This year’s Italy’s song was composed by a party of two inlcuding Lucio himself.
What’s the song about?
A reflection on personal and societal expectations regarding self-image versus bullying when he was a child.
“Living life
Is child’s play
That’s what my mom used to tell me
As I fell from trees
How tough the world is
For the ordinary ones
Who have little love around them
Or too much sun in their glasses”
Is this going to be a massive hit? Hmm, why not?
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with great vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 8 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.
So the total is: 36 out of 40 points that is 90%.
My question was: “Will Lucio’s Guy lead him to victory?” To get the best result for Italy Lucio would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Italy so far was the 1st place; it happened thrice: it was in 1964, 1990 and 2021).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Lucio! Congratulations, Italy! This song appeared in the Grand Final without taking part in the semi-finals because they belong to the so-called “Big Five”.
What did the bookmakers say about the Italian entry? Well, at that moment (9th May 2025) it was in the 15th place (on eurovisionworld.com).
