Have you seen the Italian National Selection 2023 winning performance? Is it going to be successful? Stay with me to the very end of this article and watch the video as well to find out if this entry’s going to win.
Hello, Guys!
This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! I present my reactions/comments here.
This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Due Vite” by Marco Mengoni.
Let’s watch the first snippet.
Well, frist things first. A delicate beginning with Marco’s chest register. Delicate vocals. It makes you wait what is to happen next.
The song was chosen by the combination of the televoting, press jury voting and the public poll as a part of the Festival di Sanremo. Marco won in all categories and thus he’s the winner of this festival and is to represent Italy in the ESC2023.
What’s worth mentioning is the fact that Marco has already represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 and he finished 7th back then.
This year’s song was written by Marco Mengoni himself in coopeartion with Davide Petrella and Davide Simonetta.
The first stanza is presented in a bit chatty style. And then towards the chorus the notes are going up and we hear Marco’s head voice delicate but strong and sure at the same time.
And then we have some faster tempo and Marco singing without the stand which makes this part more dynamic and energetic still without losing its vibes. And he beatifully builds up the stanza towards the resolution in the chorus.
The Eurovision version is shortened a bit as the San Remo version is almost four minutes long.
Well, as for the vibes this ‘ballad is pretty similar to the previous Eurovision performance by Marco in 2013. And if then it was well-received nothing seems to stand in the way of Marco repeating his result or even improving it.
I like the staging, as it harmonizes with the song and we have this more static and the mentioned earlier dynamic part that blend in with the song itself.
All in all, I’d say this is a very good performance with great vocals.
Will Marco’s two lives lead him to victory? We’ll see if he will get the best result for Italy. To do that he would have to win the whole contest (as Italy has won the ESC thrice so far; it was in 1964, 1990 and 2021).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Marco! Congratulations, Italy! One thing is certain, Italy will appear in the Grand Final because it’s the member of the so called ‘Big Five’ and they are directly in the Final and don’t have to compete in the semi-‘finals.
What do the bookmakers say about the Italian entry? At this moment (4th April 2023) it’s in 11th place on eurovisionworld.com.
Let’s hear it for Marco and the whole team!
Let me know what you think of this performance in the comments below. I encourage you to watch my previous videos about the Eurovision Song Contest and read the articles.
