This time I’m going to show you my most sincere reaction to the song that will represent Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. This is “Bella” by Aidan (Aidan Cassar).

Well, frist things first.

This Maltese entry was chosen both by the public (50%) and the jury > it came first in the jury vote and second in the public voting.

This year’s Maltese song was created by Aidan Cassar himself, Joep van den Boom and Sarah Bonnici. It’s sung in Maltese and English.

What’s the song about?

“Oh beautiful

I’m still here waiting

I’ll keep holding onto you

After all this time, it’s you and only you

Beautiful

Maybe you’ll think a little of me

All the nights that you danced with me

By the sea, they’re calling me

Oh beautiful

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful…

Aidan is a singer and songwriter. He competed in 2015 in Maltese Preselecton for the JESC and in 2018 in the Maltese Preselection for the ESC finishing 4^th. He also took part in X Factor. In 2022 he took part again in the Preselection for the ESC placing 2^nd this time.

Aidan’s vocals in “Bella” are really confident and controlled, with a smooth tone that carries the melody effortlessly. He delivers the verses with a relaxed intimacy, then opens up nicely in the chorus without losing precision. There’s a natural warmth in his voice that makes the performance feel authentic rather than overproduced.

Is this going to be a banger? Hmm, first let’s ask a question: Is this song going to make it to the Grand Final?

All in all, I’d say this is a very good song with great vocals.

As each juror is going to rank all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I will assign points in the same categories (eurovision.com):

– composition and originality of the song, 9 out of 10;

– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;

– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;

– overall impression of the act, 9 out of 10.

So the total is: 38 out of 40 points that is 95%.

Will Aidan’s “Bella” lead him to victory? We’ll see if he will get the best result for Malta. To do that he would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Malta so far has been the 2nd place; it happened twice: it was in 2002 and 2005).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Aidan! Congratulations, Malta! I assume this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depends on the other entries as well. What do you tink, Guys?

What do the bookmakers say about the Maltese entry? Well, at this moment (18^th January 2026) Malta is in 12^th place (eurovisionworld.com).
