Austria wins the ESC 2026. True or false? Stay with me to the very end of this text to find out if this is possible at all. And if you read the text till the end, you’ll be able to hear my song “I’m Choosing a New Era” that I submitted to the Polish Preselection for the ESC 2026.
Hello, Guys!
This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! My name’s Janusz Jacek Siwiorek JJS. I present my reactions here.
This time I’m going to show you my most sincere reaction to the song that will represent Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. This is “Tanzschein” (in English: “Dance Permit”) by Cosmó (whose full name’s Benjamin Gedeon).
Let’s watch the video:
Cosmó – “Tanzschein” (LIVE) – Austria 🇦🇹 | Eurovision 2026 | Reaction
Well, first things first.
The Austrian entry was by the public and jury. Cosmó won the public vote and came second in the jury voting.
This year’s Austrian song was created by Benjamin Gedeon, Elias Stejskal and Ella Stern. It’s sung in German.
What genre is that? It’s an electropop track with strong synth-pop and dance-pop influences.
What’s the song about?
“I’m standing outside the club
Already feeling the rush
So, tell me, are you down
To dance with me?
We step inside
Chasing after ecstasy
But behind the neon glow
Lies an animal-oasis
And there’s a lion
Hitting on a gazelle
Hunger makes him reckless
And he’s creeping up on her
Inside the cage he tears through like a blade
Everybody knows he’s not romantic
He’s not into talking
Ey ey
This can’t be happening
They’re making fools of themselves
And I don’t see a single dancer
Ey ey
But I’ve got an idea
A concept
Yeah, that would work perfectly
You need a dance permit
I gotta be strict
‘Cause without a dance permit
You’re not getting in
Do you have a dance permit?
No, this is not a joke
‘Cause without a dance permit
You’re not getting in”
“Tanzschein” is about escaping into a dreamy, nighttime atmosphere where dancing becomes a way to forget reality and get lost in the moment.
Cosmó an Austrian and Hungarian singer and songwriter.
A fun fact: Gedeon was born in Budapest, Hungary and grew up in Halbturn, Burgenland, Austria. He was born to a German father and Hungarian mother
Vocal analysis:
Cosmó keeps a cool, slightly detached tone that matches the song’s vibe, though it can feel a bit restrained emotionally. Pitch is generally stable, but the performance relies more on atmosphere than vocal power. Overall, it’s clean and consistent, but one might say that it’s not very dynamic.
Is this going to be a banger? Hmm, first let’s ask a question: Is this song going to make it to the Grand Final?
All in all, I’d say this is a very good song with great vocals.
As each juror is going to rank all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I will assign points in the same categories (eurovision.com):
– composition and originality of the song, 9 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 9 out of 10.
So the total is: 38 out of 40 points that is 95%.
Will Cosmó’s “Dance Permit” lead him to victory? We’ll see if he will get the best result for Austria. To do that he would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Austria so far has been the 1st place; it happened thrice: it was in 1966, 2014 and 2025).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Cosmó! Congratulations, Austria! I assume this song might be successful in the Grand Final because it doesn’t have to qualify for the Grand Final because Austria is this year’s ESC host. What do you think, Guys?
What do the bookmakers say about the Austrian entry? Well, at this moment (12th April 2026) Austria is in 32nd/35 place.
Let’s hear it for Cosmó and the whole team!
