Voyager – “Promise” – Australia | Eurovision Song Contest 2023 | Reaction/Comment

Have you seen the song which represents Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023? Is it going to be successful? Stay with me to the very end of this article and watch the video to find out if this entry’s going to win.

Hello, Guys!

This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! I present my reactions/comments here.

This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Promise” by Voyager.

Let’s focus on the first snippet.

Well, frist things first. I’d say an intriguing introduction with some electropop. A phrase: “Have you ever done anything like this before?” repeated twice so as for the lyrics a smart move – addressing the audience direclty with a question! Great! ???? I really like it. This grabs my attention.

This year’s Australian entry was chosen internally. And what do you think guys about this choice?

And this year’s song was created by Voyager’s members themselves.

I like the fact that this song is as if growing in terms of tempo which keeps you involved all way long. It also gets stronger and stronger as for the sounds. We might call it a pop-rock.

Oh, and its developing towards something even stronger – metal. And do we have here some scream, some growling?

And this backing vocalist makes a difference as well.

Well, this is so different from the other Australian entries we’ve had so far.

I like this diversification of this song. There are these more delicate pop parts, stronger rock elements and this metal spice added to the song.

All in all, I’d say this is a very good performance with very good vocals. Voyager seems to be very confident on stage.

As each juror is going to rank all the competing songs based on the given criteria, I will also assign points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):

– composition and originality of the song, 8 out of 10;

– quality of the performance on stage (hard to say because the national selection wasn’t held this year, but you can see some live pre-party performance available. Staging is OK. Like in a regular gig; quite natural – the lead vocalist and the rock band behind him. A lot of energy. What else to expect?, 9 out of 10;

– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;

– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.

So the total is: 35 out of 40 that is 88%.

Will Voyager’s song keep its promise and lead them to victory? We’ll see if they will get the best result for Australia. To do that they would have to win the whole contest (as the best result for Australia so far has been the 2nd place in the Grand Final; it was in 2016).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Voyager! Congratulations, Australia! I assume this song might qualify for the Grand Final but I’m not 100% sure if this will happen.

What do the bookmakers say about the Australian entry? At this moment (29th April 2023) it’s in 16th place in the Grand Final and 2nd place in the semi-final on eurovisionworld.com and in all probability, it will be successful in Liverpool.

Let’s hear it for Voyager and the whole team!
