This time I’m going to show you my honest reaction to the song that represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This is “Bur man laimi” (in English “Bring me happiness”) by Tautumeitas.

Well, frist things first.
This year’s Latvian entry was chosen both by the public and jury. What’s intriguing Tautumeitas didn’t win in any of these categories. In the public voting they finished second and in the jury voting they finished third.
This year’s Latvian song was composed by a team of five and it’s sung in Latvian. It is the first song written entirely in Latvian to represent the country since 2004.
What’s the song about?
“Others are making a bridge of steel, I’m helping an oak to grow
The bridge of steel turns to rust, my oak grows evergreen”
Is this going to be a massive hit? Hmm, why not?
All in all, I’d say this is a good song with great vocals.
As each juror ranked all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I assigned points in the same categories (eurovision.tv):
– composition and originality of the song, 7 out of 10;
– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;
– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;
– overall impression of the act, 8 out of 10.
So the total is: 35 out of 40 points that is 88%.
My question, before the show, was: “Will Tautumeitas’s happiness lead them to victory?” To get the best result for Latvia they would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Latvia so far was the 1st place; it happened once: it was in 2002).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Tautumeitas! Congratulations, Latvia! I assumed this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depended on the other entries as well.
What did the bookmakers say about the Latvian entry? Well, at that moment (19th April 2025) it was in the 34th place (on eurovisionworld.com).
