This time I’m going to show you my honest comment on the song that will represent San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Like an Animal” by Piqued Jacks.

Let’s focus on the first snippet.

OK. The very beginning proves this is a rock band, doesn’t it? Guitar and strong vocals are what we are here for, aren’t they?

The song was chosen by the jury only. And thanks to their decision Piqued Jacks became the winners of the Una Voce per San Marino 2023.

The lead vocalist seems to be charismatic and grabs the attention and I’d say ‘rules’ the stage, doesn’t he?

Great cooperation with the cameraman. I do appreciate it. This helps to establish this kind of “rapport” with the viewer.

I like this shift in the tempo of the song – from the quick to the slower one between what seems to be the chorus and stanzas.

I really like his vocals – pretty high and sounds that are easy on the ear.

I like the bridge because the above-mentioned shift is getting too regular with time. And well, probably some might complain about these higher notes, but I will not.

As for the lyrics, hmm, do they suggest that we’re all like animals? Well, as once it was said: “Man is by nature a social animal.”

I’m curious about the staging. Will it be the same in Liverpool?

Frankly speaking, I’m not sure if San Marino will be successful in the ESC 2023. Presumably, this entry might get more votes from the jury but as in this year’s  semi-finals we don’t have the jury voting, it’s hard to predict if Piqued Jacks will make it to the Grand Final.

All in all, I’d say this is a decent performance.

Will Piqued Jacks’ animals lead them to victory? We’ll see if Piqued Jacks will get the best result for San Marino. To do that they would have to finish at least 18th (as the best result for San Marino so far has been the 19th place in the Grand Final; it was in 2019).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Piqued Jacks! Congratulations, San Marino! I assume this song might qualify to the Grand Final.

What do the bookmakers say about the San Marinese entry? At this moment (5th March 2023) it’s in 33rd place on eurovisionworld.com.
