Have you seen the Belgian National Selection 2023 winning performance?
Hello, Guys!
This is your EurovisionaryVoice calling! I’ve been following the Eurovision Song Contest since 1993 and on EurovisionaryVoice YouTube channel I present my reactions/comments.
This time I’m going to share with you my honest comment on the song that will represent Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. This is “Bceause of You” by Gustaph.
Is this entry going to be successful? Is it going to be a winning song? Let’s find out.
The song was chosen by a combination of the jury and public voting and what’s intriguing Gustaph didn’t win in any of these groups – he came third in the jury voting and second in the public voting but in the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final we’ve had so far similar situations as well so maybe that’s nothing unusual.
Nice beginning – Gustaph’s dark silhouette with a white background behind him.
Quite delicate intro with good vocals.
Some stronger beats appear like disco vibe or club music.
Great backing vocalists with deep strong vocals. Good, attractive staging.
Intriguing outfit – a colourful bird. The pink colour and trendy trousers with some new design.
Some gospel and soul elements. House like music.
And this performance has been growing on me. This is so uplifting. You can just dance to it with a happy smile on your face, can’t you?
Leave a comment and tell me if you like the song.
Those backing vocalist remind me a little bit of the Swedish Mamas and they make a difference.
I like the moment when the supporting vocalists join Gustaph on stage because they I’d say go well together. This is a very nice picture. 😉
All in all, I’d say this is a very strong performance both vocally and visually.
When I’m watching Gustaph perform on stage he just reminds me of Boy George and of Jamiroquai. Do you have a smiliar impression?
We’ll see if Gustaph will get the best result for Belgium. To do that he would have to win the whole contest (as the best result so far has been the 1st place in 1986 by Sandra Kim).
In the end, I can only say: Well done, Gustaph! Congratulations, Belgium! I assume this song might be high in the jury ranking in the final. As for the public – I don’t know if they let Gustaph make it to the Grand Final. We’ll see.
What do the bookmakers say about the Belgian entry? At this moment (15th January 2023) it’s said to be below Ukraine (the 16th place), but so far only three songs have been released: Ukraine, Albania and Belgium.
Let’s hear it for Gustaph and the whole team!
