This time I’m going to show you my most sincere reaction to the song that will represent Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. This is “Dancing on the Ice” by Essyla whose real name’s Alice Van Eesbeeck.

Well, first things first.

This Belgian entry was chosen internally.

This year’s Belgian song was created by Alice Van Eesbeeck, Barbara Petitjean, Emil Stengele and Nicolas d’Avell. It’s sung in English.

What genre is that? Electro‑pop / modern pop.

What’s the song about?

“I keep dancing on the ice

Where everything dies

Frozen to the bone

I keep dancing on the ice

Cause I feel alive

I’m satisfied”

This song is about taking risks, embracing freedom, and enjoying life despite challenges. It uses the image of “dancing on ice” as a metaphor for stepping out of your comfort zone, facing uncertainty, and finding joy and confidence even in tricky situations. The lyrics mix personal empowerment with a playful, energetic vibe, making it both inspiring and fun.

Essyla is a Belgian singer and songwriter.

A fun fact: The stage name Essyla, is a creative derivative of her birth name, “Alice”, created by reversing the name.

Essyla looks confident and full of energy in the video. Her voice is strong and clear, and she matches the beat perfectly. The performance feels fun, modern, and polished — a great fit for the song.

Essyla showed a strong and confident voice during her time on The Voice Belgique, where she reached the final — this proves she can handle singing live under pressure.

Even though the official “Dancing on the Ice” video is a studio recording, you can expect from her previous performances that a live version would feel confident and professional, with strong vocals carried by her pop‑oriented style.

Is this going to be a banger? Hmm, first let’s ask a question: Is this song going to make it to the Grand Final?

All in all, I’d say this is a very good song with very good vocals.

As each juror is going to rank all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I will assign points in the same categories (eurovision.com):

– composition and originality of the song, 9 out of 10;

– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;

– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;

– overall impression of the act, 9 out of 10.

So the total is: 38 out of 40 points that is 95%.

Will Essyla’s “Ice” lead her to victory? We’ll see if she will get the best result for Belgium. To do that he would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Belgium so far has been the 1st place; it happened once: it was in 1986).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Essyla! Congratulations, Belgium! I assume this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depends on the other entries as well. What do you think, Guys?

What do the bookmakers say about the Belgian entry? Well, at this moment (3^rd March 2026) Belgium is in 28^th/35 place (eurovisionworld.com).
