This time I’m going to show you my most sincere reaction to the song that will represent Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. This is “Pray” by Alicja (whose full name’s Alicja Szemplińska).

Well, first things first.

The Polish entry was chosen by the public.

This year’s Polish song was created by Alicja Szemplińska herself, Sinclair Alan Malcolm, Weronika Gabryelczyk. It’s sung in English.

What genre is that? It’s a modern R&B / soul ballad with gospel influences and subtle hip-hop production.

The track blends elements of gospel, hip-hop, R&B and soul, which she describes as “all the influences that have shaped Alicja as an artist”

What’s the song about?

“Pray” is about facing inner pain and emotional struggles while searching for hope. The lyrics show a moment of vulnerability, where the singer feels lost but refuses to give up. Through “prayer,” she finds strength, healing, and a sense of direction.

All in all, It’s about struggling inside and finding hope and strength through prayer and belief.

Self-described it’s a reflection on Alicja’s journey toward personal growth and artistic independence.

Despite its title, the song does not carry a strictly religious meaning, with the concept of prayer used as a metaphor for overcoming personal struggles and finding inner strength, freedom and independence. Alicja has stated the song is an expression of her own experiences within the music industry and of her desire to remain authentic to her artistic identity regardless of commercial expectations, describing it as “personal”

Alicja is a Polish singer. She won The Voice of Poland in 2019.

A fun fact: Alicja had been chosen to represent Poland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song “Empires” before the event was cancelled.

Vocal analysis:

Alicja delivers a controlled, emotional vocal performance built on clarity and feeling rather than showy runs.

In the verses, her voice is soft, warm, and intimate, with very clean phrasing and subtle breathiness that draws you in. She uses excellent control and restraint, letting the emotion sit naturally in the tone.

As the song builds, you can hear a gradual increase in intensity and support. Her voice becomes fuller without losing precision, showing strong breath control and smooth transitions between registers.

In the chorus, she opens up with a rich, resonant tone, adding a slight gospel-style power. The higher notes are stable and well-supported, not pushed, which keeps the sound polished and authentic.

To sum up, Alicja delivers a controlled and emotional vocal, starting soft and intimate, then building into a powerful, soulful chorus with strong support and clean high notes.

Is this going to be a banger? Hmm, first let’s ask a question: Is this song going to make it to the Grand Final?

All in all, I’d say this is a very good song with great vocals.

As each juror is going to rank all the competing songs in each show based on the given criteria, I will assign points in the same categories (eurovision.com):

– composition and originality of the song, 9 out of 10;

– quality of the performance on stage, 10 out of 10;

– vocal capacity of the performer(s), 10 out of 10;

– overall impression of the act, 9 out of 10.

So the total is: 38 out of 40 points that is 95%.

Will Alicja’s “Pray” lead her to victory? We’ll see if she will get the best result for Poland. To do that she would have to win the whole Contest (as the best result for Poland so far was the 2^nd place; it happened once: it was in 1994).

In the end, I can only say: Well done, Alicja! Congratulations, Poland! I assume this song might qualify for the Grand Final but of course it depends on the other entries as well. What do you think, Guys?

What do the bookmakers say about the Polish entry? Well, at this moment (23^rd April 2026) Poland is in 28^th/35 place.
